MUA  Manipulation Under Anesthesia

Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA) is a non-invasive, highly specialized technique performed by specially trained chiropractic physicians.  After medical clearance, the patient is sedated to achieve a state of relaxation.  This state of relaxation allows the doctor to complete a combination of specific short lever manipulations, passive stretches and specific articular and postural kinesthetic maneuvers in order to break up fibrous adhesion's and scar tissue around joints, the spine, and surrounding tissue. The results for properly selected patients are phenomenal (85 - 90% success rate).

Following the MUA procedure, the patient will begin an individualized 4- 6 week program designed specifically for the MUA patient which will include stretching, flexibility and strengthening exercises.  This regimented post-MUA therapy will help the patient regain pre-injury strength and help prevent future pain and disability.

MUA can be a valuable procedure for those who suffer with pain caused by: frozen shoulder, chronic low back and neck pain, chronic headaches, sciatica, capsulitis of the knee or hip, carpal tunnel syndrome, and failed spinal surgery.

Due to the high success rate for patients who had previously experienced chronic pain, MUA procedures are now covered by most major insurance plans.

Dr. Christopher Wood is MUA certified by both the American Academy of Manual and Physical Medicine and Texas Chiropractic college.
